Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s Malasakit Team extended assistance to families affected by a fire incident in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City during their visit on Wednesday, July 9.
The senator underscored his continuing effort to stand with vulnerable communities affected by fire emergencies, ensuring that no family feels abandoned in times of hardship.
Held at Tata Dune Old Gym, Go’s Malasakit Team immersed themselves in the community, engaging with residents and spending time with them to personally convey the senator’s concern and commitment.
They distributed financial assistance, snacks, water containers, grocery packs, vitamins, shirts, and basketballs to the 38 affected families to help ease the immediate burden on affected residents.
In a message to the affected residents, Senator Go reminded them of the value of life and bayanihan in recovering from adversity.
“Huwag po kayong mawalan ng pag-asa. Ang gamit po, napapalitan, pero ang buhay ay hindi. A lost life is a lost life forever. Magtulungan lang po tayo, sino ba naman ang magtutulungan kundi tayo kapwa Pilipino. Magseserbisyo ako sa inyo sa abot ng aking makakaya,” he said in a video message, emphasizing the importance of community solidarity during difficult times.
The senator also acknowledged and thanked the barangay officials who helped organize the activity.
“Isa lang po ang pakiusap ko sa mga barangay officials: ‘Wag pabayaan ang mga kababayan nating mahihirap,” he reminded. “Bukas dapat palagi ang inyong tanggapan tuwing may nangangailangan.”
Meanwhile, Go highlighted the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Modernization Act of 2021, enacted as Republic Act No. 11589, which he principally authored and co-sponsored. He cited its importance in equipping fire personnel to better handle similar incidents through sustained upgrades in equipment, training, and manpower.
In addition, Go also cited RA 12076 or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which he also principally authored and co-sponsored. The law mandates the establishment of safe and disaster-resilient evacuation centers in every municipality and city across the country to ensure that displaced families have access to these centers.
He also reiterated his commitment to addressing housing challenges, especially in crisis-hit communities. He refiled a measure that seeks to establish a Rental Housing Subsidy Program for disaster victims.
If enacted, the measure will provide temporary shelter assistance while affected families transition to permanent housing.
“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” underscored Go who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
