Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s longstanding support for grassroots infrastructure and localized development was clearly felt in Bohol on Friday, July 11, as his Malasakit Team attended the blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new multi-purpose building in Barangay Hanopol Este, Balilihan.
This project exemplifies Go’s continuing efforts as Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance to ensure that public resources are used effectively to improve the daily lives of Filipinos, particularly in provincial communities where civic infrastructure plays a vital role in social and economic activities.
The multi-purpose building in Hanopol Este stands as an important civic asset for residents, providing a venue for community gatherings, barangay assemblies, health and wellness initiatives, and disaster preparedness activities.
“Ang mga ganitong pasilidad po ay hindi lamang gusali. Dito nagtitipon ang mga barangay officials at mga residente para talakayin ang mga isyu sa kanilang lugar. Dito rin ginagawa ang mga programa para sa kalusugan, edukasyon, at kabuhayan. Kaya mahalaga po ito para sa ating komunidad,” Go explained.
Go likewise acknowledged the collective efforts behind the project’s completion and thanked the local government officials who worked alongside national government offices in realizing the project.
“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng tumulong para maisakatuparan ito. Ang proyekto pong ito ay patunay na kung magtutulungan tayo, mas marami tayong magagawa para sa ating mga kababayan,” Go added.
On the same day, Go personally attended the 428th Foundation Day of Loboc, Bohol, and the 3rd Suba Festival, which highlighted Loboc’s cultural heritage and the vital importance of tourism, healthcare, sports, and entrepreneurship in the town’s development agenda.
Prior to his visit to Loboc, Senator Go also led activities in Alburquerque town, where he witnessed the inauguration of a multi-purpose building in Barangay Bahi and visited key local projects, including the newly inaugurated public market and tennis court—projects that reflect Go’s drive to empower local governments through infrastructure investments.
Beyond these engagements, Go’s sustained assistance to Bohol as Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance is evident across the province through a wide range of completed and ongoing projects designed to improve infrastructure, healthcare services, public facilities, and disaster resilience.
In Tagbilaran City, Go supported the renovation and completion of vital infrastructure, including the Cogon Public Market and the construction of the Tagbilaran City Sports Center and Coliseum. These facilities are essential for promoting local commerce, fostering cultural and athletic development, and enhancing urban spaces for public use.
The senator’s advocacy for improved roads and transport connectivity materialized in projects that spanned municipalities such as Candijay, Buenavista, Dimiao, Dagohoy, Mabini, Sevilla, Tubigon, Carmen, San Miguel, and Ubay, where critical road networks were rehabilitated, upgraded, or concreted. His support also covered the construction of significant structures such as the Talibon–Bien Unido Bridge and the Jct. San Miguel–Bayongan–Bulilis–Mabuhay Road in Ubay, facilitating greater mobility and economic integration within Bohol.
In communities prone to flooding and climate-related risks, Go backed the construction of flood mitigating structures, particularly in Buenavista and Ubay, demonstrating a clear focus on long-term climate adaptation and risk reduction.
Healthcare support under his leadership as Chair of the Senate Health Committee also included dialysis centers in Balilihan, a rural health unit in Clarin, and ambulances and rescue vehicles for towns such as Catigbian, Mabini, Trinidad, and Sierra Bullones, significantly boosting emergency response capabilities across the province.
Civic spaces likewise flourished with Go’s support. Multi-purpose buildings, evacuation centers, gyms, covered courts, and public markets rose in Alburquerque, Anda, Alicia, Batuan, Balilihan, Corella, Cortes, Dauis, Dimiao, Duero, Garcia-Hernandez, Getafe, Guindulman, Inabanga, Jagna, Lila, Loay, Loboc, Loon, Mabini, Panglao, Pilar, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, Sagbayan, San Isidro, San Miguel, Sierra Bullones, Sikatuna, Talibon, Trinidad, Valencia, and Tagbilaran City itself.
Further enhancing public safety and sustainability, Go’s supported initiatives in Bohol include extensive solar-powered street lighting projects, particularly in Antequera, Alburquerque, Candijay, Dauis, Loboc, Mabini, San Isidro, Tagbilaran City, and Trinidad. These lights now illuminate public spaces while contributing to energy efficiency and local security.
“Tandaan natin, minsan lang tayo dadaan sa mundong ito. Kung ano pong kabutihan o tulong na pwede nating gawin sa ating kapwa ay gawin na natin ngayon dahil hindi na tayo babalik sa mundong ito,” reminded Go, who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
“Ako ang inyong Senator Kuya Bong Go, patuloy na magseserbisyo sa inyong lahat dahil bisyo ko na ang magserbisyo at ako po ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo po ‘yan sa Diyos,” he concluded.
